Uganda AIDS Relief - Be a part of the solution

Aids in Uganda is an enormous issue. So why should I even get involved? In our success oriented society it seems that we may want to only get involved in something if there is an end. Another successful project completed. Kudos! You solved the AIDS problem in Africa. What's next? World Peace??? If only it were that simple. Wait a second! It actually is that simple.

The truth is that for less than a percent of the income of the rich world not a single person has to die of poverty on the planet. Please go back and read that again. It is the truth! For less than a couple dollars a day we can provide medicine for a sick mother. For about a nickle a day we could provide energy rich milk which would sustain her and keep her alive to take care of her kids. Uh, that is one empty bottle return! By 2010 there will be 42 million orphans in Sub-Sahara Africa. In Uganda there are 2.3 million AIDS orphans, 1 million kids living with AIDS, 110,000 of those kids are under the age of 14. I could go on, but I hope you can see the enormity of the issue.

Folks, this problem is not going away. All these kids are being orphaned due to AIDS, sickness that could be prevented and starvation. You can help. We must work together.

Bono recently said,"This is an emergency—normal rules don't apply. There are no easy good or bad guys," he says. "Do you think an African mother cares if the drugs keeping her child alive are thanks to an iPod or a church plate? Or a Democrat or a Republican? I don't think that mother gives a damn about where that 20-cent pill comes from, so why should we. It can lead to some uncomfortable bedfellows, but sometimes less sleep means you are more awake."

If you are interested in getting involved in our outreach to the AIDS orphan and widow in Uganda please respond to this blog. IF you are not interested in helping us. Just do something.
